DrummerJohn Brown Sr.
Born in Winnsboro in 1947, Brown was set to follow in the footsteps of his Father, a Dispatcher for Missouri Pacific Railroad, and small acreage farmer. But a performance by The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 changed everything. Within a few short years, Brown, who took up the drums, was working local honky-tonks with fellow Franklin Parish natives, Gene King and Jerry Killingsworth.
Eventually, music would lead Brown to Nashville where he would become one of country music's most sought out and respected touring drummers. By the time his career ended, Brown had worked for Nat Stuckey, Donna Fargo, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, and George Jones.
Today, his legacy continues through the John L Brown Sr. Memorial Music Scholarship for Franklin Parish.
